Federal Railroad Administration - Positive Train Control Safety Plan Support
With an international team of specialists Atkins North America leads the Federal Railroad Administration's (FRA) review and approval of Positive Train Control Safety Plans (PTCSP) and associated technical safety documents.
The team reviews documentation as submitted by various railroads and transit authorities to provide the FRA with confidence that the implementing agency has reasonably assessed the safety and associated risks of their PTC implementation and that the proposed system meets Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) Title 49, Part 236 requirements in accordance with the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (RISIA).
The effort includes leading the reviews for more than 10 different PTCSPs covering Class I freight railroads and commuter railroads utilizing both Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement Systems (ACSES) as well as Interoperable Electronic Train Management Systems (I-ETMS).
